I picked my sister up from school today and this song came on the radio as we were driving home. She got uber excited and was like, “Dani! Professor Lupin and Sirius Black! This song is like them! It should be their song!”

I’m definitely a sucker for Remus and Sirius dancing to 70s punk and glam and disco, but I actually have a really vivid image of them dancing to this too.

Not necessarily in an overly affectionate way either. Just in their flat - their really boxy, grey flat - probably in the middle of the lounge, with this scratchy record on in the background as the two of them hold on to each other. Maybe not even smiling, just sort of clutching and swaying slightly and staring over the other’s shoulder and thinking about how it was the kind of song they’d have danced ridiculously to in their teen years but now, with a war on, dancing to Remus’s Muggle records is about as close to normality as they can get. They don’t do it to take the piss out of each other anymore, or to mime the words dramatically, or to make each other laugh; they do it, perhaps without even realising, so that they can feel close without actually having to say anything, because whenever they try to speak to one another everything just kind of falls to pieces.

So they let songs like this do the talking for them: a song Remus remembers from his childhood, and a song Sirius barely recognises but thinks, really, it says all the things he wants to say to Moony, without all the fear and suspicion and anger that seems to constantly lace his words these days.

This song was recorded on the Beatles’ Anthology 2. The vocal track had been recorded by John before his death and never released. In 1995, Paul, Ringo and George got together and tweeked some lyrics, wrote a piano line, put in harmonies and added guitar and drum lines. They recorded a Beatles song 25 years after they disbanded.

This song is what I imagine my OTP dancing to on their wedding day.

I like to imagine Sirius sings this to his bike quite often. Not strictly Wolfstar, but you can then in turn imagine a sassy Remus and lots of jealous motorbike sex, which is always lovely.

so i know that sirius was in azkaban when this came out

but i still like to think that at some point he gets belligerently drunk and sings this to remus

like idk maybe once Sirius is out Remus takes him to some night club (because obviously sirius loves to shake his ass) and they just play all this ’80s music and it doesn’t even matter that Sirius doesn’t know all the words because he knows the chorus and he does the whole “fishing line” thing to Remus across the dance floor and they’re just both drunk and happy and tearing it up

idk that’s just what i like to imagine sometimes

can you imagine sirius dancing with remus to this song tho

like he’d have to drag him out of his chair and remus would be all blushing and trying to hide his face in his jumper and sirius would be singing along and shaking his hips and remus couldn’t help but laugh and go along with it even though he’s convinced he has two left feet and no business waltzing along to billy joel but sirius would keep hold of his hips and convince remus to put those arms around his neck instead of hiding his face in them james and lily would be laughing fondly at them from the sidelines and everyone else would be too drunk to even notice and they would cheer when sirius dipped him down and kissed him right there and remus would pretend to be all indignant but he wouldn’t be able to stop smiling and even when he called sirius a mad dog there was no bite to it and hell he even kissed him back and mouthed the last verse against his lips and neither of them complained the next morning when sirius had a splitting hangover and both of them had the chorus ringing through their heads
